Course Objectives
Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:
- Distinguish between traditional tobacco/alcohol related oral cancer and HPV-positive oropharyngeal disease.
- Determine how to decide when a non-healing lesion requires a biopsy or referral.
- Identify high-risk anatomical "danger zones" in the oral cavity that are often missed during routine exams.
- Understand why Depth of Invasion (DOI) is now the most critical factor in staging oral tongue cancer.
- Explain how Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) and 3D printing are used to aid in mandibular reconstruction.
- Describe the role of microvascular free flaps in restoring speech, swallowing, and facial symmetry.
- Discuss the importance of pre-radiation dental clearance and subsequent dental survivorship care to minimize the long-term risk of osteoradionecrosis (ORN).
- Streamline the referral process to our office to ensure oncology patients undergo consultation quickly after referral.
- Detect early signs of recurrence in post-treatment patients during routine dental follow-ups.
